Plain Dosa – Simple, Crispy, and Classic South Indian Delight
Plain Dosa is a traditional South Indian crepe made from a fermented batter of rice and urad dal (black gram). Thin, crispy, and golden brown, it’s a light yet satisfying dish that’s loved across India and internationally. Unlike masala dosa, plain dosa is served without any filling, making it a perfect canvas for dipping in chutneys and sambar.
The batter is prepared by soaking rice and urad dal, grinding them into a smooth paste, and fermenting overnight to get a light, airy texture. On a hot tawa (griddle), the batter is spread thinly into a circular shape and cooked with a touch of oil or ghee until crisp.
Plain dosa is typically served with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, and piping hot sambar. It’s a popular choice for breakfast but can be enjoyed at any time of day. Light on the stomach yet flavorful, it’s a perfect blend of taste and tradition.
