Onion Dosa – Crispy Dosa with a Flavorful Onion Twist
Onion Dosa is a delicious variation of the traditional South Indian dosa, enhanced with finely chopped onions and optional green chilies, coriander, and spices. It’s crispy, savory, and full of texture, making it a favorite for breakfast or a light meal.
Prepared with fermented rice and urad dal batter, the dosa is spread thin on a hot tawa (griddle). Chopped onions are then sprinkled over the dosa while it’s still wet, sometimes along with green chilies, cumin seeds, coriander leaves, and a dash of black pepper. As the dosa cooks, the onions caramelize slightly, adding sweetness and crunch to each bite.
Onion dosa is best served hot with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or sambar. Some people also enjoy it with a dollop of butter or ghee for added richness. It’s quick, tasty, and satisfying – perfect for any time of day.
